State encourages school districts to implement effective breakfast programs.

New joint guidance from the New Jersey Department of Education and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture highlights the importance of a new state law that requires high-poverty schools to serve breakfast during the regular school day — rather than before school when most children have not yet arrived.

The guidance is important as schools with at least 70 percent of students eligible for free or low-cost school meals must implement these programs this September.
