MLK Day of Service – CUC Paramus SOLD OUT

January 21, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Central Unitarian Church

CFA’s community-wide MLK Day of Service Event on Monday, January 21, 2019, is SOLD OUT.  Local businesses, community-based and service organizations, schools, and individuals in support of the MLK Day of Service will be assembling weekend snack packs for local children in need.

Legislation signed in 1983 marked the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. a federal holiday. In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading this effort. Each year, on the third Monday in January, MLK Day of Service is observed as a “day on, not a day off.” MLK Day of Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”

Many children who receive free or reduced-price school meals are left without adequate nutrition on weekends. CFA’s Weekend Snack Pack Program helps fill the gap. Last year, 35,000 snack packs were distributed to local children in need at 15 local schools.

Event Navigation

We are extraordinarily grateful to see our community come together to support frontline care team members in the last several months. Through your generosity, more than 150,000 meals from local restaurants were donated to help power our team through the height of the COVID-19 crisis. As we begin to move forward, our locations will no longer be accepting food donations—but we ask that you keep that generous spirit alive.

We encourage you to instead direct your financial donations to Center for Food Action’s Give a Meal Program to help those going hungry within our communities. Together, we can curb hunger, help local restaurants, and make a difference for families in need.
