“I Feel Elevated Here” – One Guest’s Journey with CFA

For one of our longtime guests, living with a brain injury means daily challenges that most of us can’t imagine. One of those challenges is remembering when she needs food. “I don’t even realize I’m out of food until I open the cabinet and there’s nothing there,” she told us recently. “It’s not that I forget on purpose – I just can’t hold it in my memory.”

At CFA, we make it a priority to call and remind her when it’s time for a pantry visit. And when she walks through our doors, something special happens. “Whenever I come to CFA, I feel elevated,” she said. “It lifts my spirit. Other places, they make you feel like dirt – like you’re less of a person. But here, I feel seen. I feel like I matter.”

Just a few weeks ago, she was dealing with a cascade of serious health issues and couldn’t make it to the pantry. Without hesitation, one of our advocates dropped off a food package on her way home from work. “That meant the world to me,” she said. “You all go above and beyond – not because you have to, but because you care.”

Her words remind us why we do this work. CFA is more than a food pantry – it’s a place where dignity lives, compassion leads, and support shows up when it’s needed most.
