Neighbors Taking Action

Thank you to Jen Maxfield Ostfeld for hosting an MLK Day Weekend Snack Pack event at Elisabeth Morrow School.

Many children who receive free or reduced-price school meals are left without adequate nutrition on weekends and holiday breaks.

CFA’s Weekend Snack Pack Program is designed to fill this gap by providing healthy, kid-friendly, and easy to prepare snack foods to children at risk of weekend hunger.

On Fridays, children who participate in the free and reduced-price school lunch program and have returned a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian, a sealed plastic bag of nutritious snacks is discretely placed into their backpacks.

Participating schools: Grieco Elementary-Englewood, Quarles Elementary-Englewood, Ann C. Scott-Leonia, George Washington-Edgewater, Robert L. Craig-Moonachie, Washington Memorial-Little Ferry and Jackson Avenue Elementary-Hackensack, Garfield and Teaneck.

We are extraordinarily grateful to see our community come together to support frontline care team members in the last several months. Through your generosity, more than 150,000 meals from local restaurants were donated to help power our team through the height of the COVID-19 crisis. As we begin to move forward, our locations will no longer be accepting food donations—but we ask that you keep that generous spirit alive.

We encourage you to instead direct your financial donations to Center for Food Action’s Give a Meal Program to help those going hungry within our communities. Together, we can curb hunger, help local restaurants, and make a difference for families in need.
