-Work rules dropped from farm bill

Great news! Congressional leaders reportedly said harsh work requirements will not be included in the farm  bill. This proposal would have denied food assistance to thousands of New Jersey residents. With your help, we have been fighting this proposal for months. We thank all who sent messages to our Congressional representatives, shared on social media and otherwise added their voice to the mix in speaking out against this punitive plan. State legislation advances to fight hunger

An Assembly panel last week approved a package of 14 bills aimed at addressing hunger in New Jersey. Led by Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, who has made hunger a top priority, the effort promises to curb hunger on college campuses, connect people with food assistance, raise awareness of hunger in New Jersey, reduce food waste and provide more healthy shopping options for people living in “food deserts.’’ The measures now head to the full Assembly, with a vote expected on Dec. 17. –Speak out against harmful rule!

The Trump Administration has proposed a rule that would deter legal immigrants from seeking help for themselves and their children. The rule would make it even more difficult for immigrants to stay in the U.S. legally if they sought help through federal nutrition, housing and health programs. The rule will increase poverty, harm health and learning and weaken our communities. Hunger Free New Jersey, along with our national partners, is submitting comments opposing this rule.
